In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling meadows, resided a boy named Shepherd. His existence was unadulterated, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was mainly to tend to his herd of sheep.
Their low murmuring and the rustling of the wind among the single tree on the peak were his constant companions. Day upon day, watching over his charges inculcated in him a sense of calm satisfaction.
However, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. On one such day because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a mischievous scheme.
Stories of predators hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a prank on the villagers.
One day he raced read more into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to help but found no beast.
The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a couple of more days. Yet, one day, a real wolf actually charge at the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the results of crying wolf.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is tough to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
